The Macedonia national football team has been drawn in the qualification Group 9 for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, together with Netherlands, Scotland, Norway and Iceland.

The qualification Group 9 is the only group in the European zone with 5 teams. Because of that, there is no team with low FIFA ranking in our group. Netherlands are ranked 9th, Scotland 14th, Norway 28th and the only team lower ranked then Macedonia(59th) is Iceland who are on the 89th position of the latest FIFA ranking list.

When the groups are finished, the first placed teams will qualify directly for the World Cup. The results in the other 8 groups against the bottom placed teams will be discounted and the best 8 second placed teams from all 9 groups will play 2 legged play-offs to qualify. The qualifying matches will start in 2008 after the European Championship is finished and the full schedule will be known soon.
