The draw for the 2025/26 season the second division took place although it is still unsure which team will compete at the place of Besa 1976 or if there will be any team taking over their place.
With the season starting on 23 August, 15 teams entered the draw. Besa 1976 declined competing just a day before the draw, so FFM immediately sent an invitation to Prespa, the lone third league winner who did not earn promotion last season (lost the play-0ff and then was unlucky in the drawing lots). Prespa accepted the invitation, but before making it official FFM must check if they fulfill all the necessary requirements for competing in the second flight.
“FK Prespa Resen in the season 25/26 will compete in the 2.MFL. We have accepted the invitation that by all means was ours after the withdrawal of FK Besa 1976. The club fulfills all requirements for competing at this level: stadium, youth academy, coaches, everything that is necessary. We have started the preparations for the new season and we are working on strengthening the squad to the challenge called 2.MFL” – says the statement of the club.
As Gostivar, Voska Sport and now Besa 1976 all decided not to compete, among the second division clubs there is nono relegated from the top flight. Instead, all the new teams are promoted from the third division.

This season the top two will be promoted with the 3rd and 4th places going in the play-offs against the 9th and 8th placed teams of the top flight. As the league will be shortened to 14 teams starting from the season 2026/27, teams placed from 12th to 16th position will be relegated with the places 9, 10 and 11 entering a promotion/relegation play-off along with the winners of the 5 third division groups.
