Vardar presents 6 new signings

After a disappointing season that left the club without a place in the European cups, the Skopje based club is determined to build a strong team that will attack the double. In order to achieve that, Vardar even in June started to sign new players.

The long speculations that Boban Grncharov will be joining Vardar eventually came true as the experienced Macedonian national team central defender today signed a contract. The popular Grne is surely the biggest signing, having so far played 33 games for Macedonia scoring 1 goal. He comes from the Ukrainian where he last played for Tavriya. In his ritch career he has played for Botev Plovdiv, Lierse, APOEL, Maccabi Petah Tikva, Gent, Stal, Metalurh Donetsk and OFK Beograd. Grncharov is back in the club where he made his first footballing steps.

Other Macedonian signings are Blagoja Ljamchevski, Darko Glishikj and Nikola Gligorov. Ljamchevski is a 27-year old left back who comes from local rivals Metalurg where he has been playing since the summer of 2010 when he came from Pelister. He has also played for Pobeda, Rabotnichki and makedonija GjP. Currently he is with the national team playing a friendly away against China.

Darko Glishikj is back in Vardar as he is a product of the club’s academy who left the club as a teenager. He is a also a left back, but he can also play as left midfielder although Ljamchevski is also capable for playing a more attacking role. Still, both shouldn’t be a competition to each other as Ljamchevski is also capable of playing on the right side. Darko is a 22-year old who comes from the Georgian league where he played for Dinamo Tbilisi. Although a young player, he has big experience as so far he has changes many clubs such as domestic sides Teteks, Napredok, Skopje and also Bosnian team Olimpija Sarajevo.

Nikola Gligorov is a former regular national team player. The 30-year old defensive midfielder appeared in 18 games for the national team, almost all in the period of coaches Mirsad Jonuz and John Toshack when he was first choice in the midfield. He comes from Azeri side Xəzər, but in the past he was part of Vardar on several occasions, the last being in the season 2008/09.

Armenian national team player Hovhannes Hambardzumyan is surely a player to keep an eye on. A 23-year old right back who can also play a more attacking role, comes from the current Armenian champions Bannats whose product he actually is. For his national team he has played in 7 games. He was part of the squad that faced Macedonia in Skopje in the EURO 2012 qualifiers, but stayed on the bench.

The last signing is unknown for the Macedonian fans. It’s the 29-year old Croatian keeper Matija Kobetić who spend this half-season in second division side Sesvete. In his career he has been part of many Croatian clubs and also Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana and Hungarian team Videoton.

Apart from these new names, the club has released 4 players so far: captain Radenko Bojović and keeper Kostadin Zahov are still looking for new clubs, winger Dragan Gjorgiev went back to Turnovo, while attacker Antonio Bujchevski signed for Renova.
