U21 EURO draw results: Macedonia in the tough Group B

The Group involving MacedoniaMacedonia will compete in the Group B together with Portugal, Serbia and Spain.

The draw for the 2017 U21 EURO took place today in the city of Krakow, one of the 6 hosts cities that Poland choose for the finals. For the first time in the history of this competition, Macedonia participated after our boys qualified by winning the qualification Group 3 ahead of France, Island, Ukraine, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The young Lynx will face the likes of Portugal, Serbia and Spain in a battle for the first place in order to advance in the semifinals as only the best runner-up will join them.

The pots before the draw

As a team with the lowest coeficient, Macedonia was placed in the last Pot 3 together with defending champions Sweden, the World Cup holders Serbia, Italy, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Each group got two teams from this pot that acted as a joint pot instead of having Pot 3 and Pot 4.

Since the schedule was previously done, simply by assigning position numbers to each team drawn we can right away know the dates and venues of all the matches. Here’s the Macedonian game plan:

June 17 Spain vs. Macedonia

June 20 Serbia vs. Macedonia

June 23 Macedonia vs. Portugal

Macedonia will play all of its matches at a single venue, the Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak stadium in the city of Bydgoszcz.

After the draw U21 national team coach Blagoja Milevski commented: “We were drawn with national teams that are among the best 5 in Europe according to the quality of the youth football. This will be a great opportunity to show our selves in an even better edition. During this draw Macedonia together with Poland was the most mentioned team and that speaks for our quality. We will fight and we will try once again to bring joy to our fans.”
