U17: Macedonia loses opener to Scotland

The U17s; photo: FFMMacedonia U17 began the qualifying cycle in Bulgaria with a 3:0 loss to Scotland.

Bad start for the U17 national team. The qualifications for reaching the Elite Round are almost over for Macedonia after today’s results. In a game of two 40 minute halves, Scotland U17 grabbed two goals in the opening 21 minutes to discourage Macedonia. Another goal arrived in the 70th minute for a final of 3:0.

In the other match of the group, Italy also won 3:0 over host nation Bulgaria. Italy happens to be the next opponent of Macedonia on Friday, so a loss must be avoided in that game to have some chance of qualifying.

Keep in mind that the top two teams in each group will progress to the Elite Round along with the five best third-placed sides with the best record against the leading pair in their groups.
