U16: Macedonia – Georgia 2:2 (7:6 p.s.o)

Macedonian U16 national team defeated Georgian counterparts after a penalty shootout.

In the last matchday of the UEFA development tournament played in Skopje, Macedonia and Georgia played an even match which ended 2:2 after the regular time. Milosh Toshevski opened the scoreline in the 6th minute, but the visitors turned the game around and they led 1:2 until the final moments of the match when Toshevski once again scored a real beauty directly from a free kick to equalize the match in the dying minutes. Under the regulations, the match went into a penalty shootout that eventually ended good for the home team.

Macedonia played the match with the following line-up: Filip Trajchevski (63′ Riste Jankov); Viktor Stojkovski, Aleksandar Karakabakov, Emil Abas (60′ Viktor Dimkov), Semavat Seferi, Esmin Lichina (46′ Agon Hani, 70′ Davor Zdravkovski), Milan Ristovski, Nehar Sadiki (60′ Igor Petkov), Milosh Toshevski, Darko Dodev (60′ Alban Sulejmani), Andrej Kirovski.

Ristovski, Karakabakov, Sulejmani, Zdravkovski, Dimkov, Stojkovski and Toshevski scored goals from the penalty spot, while only Petkov missed his penalty in the third series.

“I am content with the win although we did needed luck. Georgia is a very strong team and that was clear to everyone who followed the tournament. We have opened the match really good, scored a goal and created several chances. We had a downfall in the second half and allowed two goals but the positive thing is we got back in the game and eventually won after penalties which is a good thing for these footballers” said Bobi Stojkoski, the manager.

Cyprus defeated Armenia 4:1 in the other match and thus won the tournament.
