Four defenders on the Macedonian national team have now scored a goal over the past two days, with Vanche Shikov joining the previously aforementioned Boban Grncharov and Daniel Mojsov in accomplishing that feat.

In Monday’s game between Volyn and Karpaty, Shikov played the entire game at right CB and scored the lone goal for his team in the 55th minute.  The match wound end 1:1 after Volyn conceded a late equalizer in the 85th minute.  Shikov’s goal came following a corner kick in which the ball was loose in front of the goal.  Vanche’s first effort was barely cleared off the line, but Shikov followed on the rebound to send a header to the back of the net.  Looking at the replay, the goal could also have been recorded as an own goal, but ultimately Shikov was credited with his first goal of the season.  Vanche, who began the season as vice-captain, was recently promoted to captain by the club’s manager Vitaliy Kvartsyanyi.

Martin Bogatinov, on the other hand, was not included in the 18 player squad by Karpaty.  He was one of six players reinstated to the first team several days ago, but none of those six players made the final 18 men squad for the match against Volyn.

Meanwhile, in Sweden, Daniel Ivanovski netted one goal himself to help lead Mjällby to a 4:3 win over Helsingborg, a club tied for second place on the standings that has the best goal difference at +24 in the 16 team Swedish league.

Just like Shikov, Ivanovski’s goal came following a corner kick.  Two Mjällby players would have their shots blocked, after the corner was briefly cleared, but the ball then fell to Ivanovski who fired a powerful shot to the upper right corner that gave no chance to the Helsingborg keeper.  That goal in the 62nd minute made it 3:1 for Mjällby who held on to collect a 4:3 victory.
