Spanish club Granada announced on Friday that keeper Stole Dimitrievski would go back to being the starter on its reserve team.
With the return of starter Roberto Alvarellos, who missed the opening game due to a suspension, Granada had a decision to make. Should Dimitrievski serve as the backup to Roberto, or go back to being the starter on the Granada B team (thus being the third keeper on the first team)? On Friday, Granada provided the answer when Dimitrievski was summoned in the team’s B squad for Saturday’s game against Cartagena.
Although Dimitrievski had outperformed Oier Olazábal, the other keeper on the first team besides Roberto, Granada likely made the right decision regarding Stole. If Dimitrievski was the backup keeper on the first team, then he would not have seen any game action. Roberto would simply start in goal, while another young keeper from Granada’s academy would play for the B team. With this decision, Dimitrievski will get regular playing time for Granada B where he can continue his development. He is still just 20 years old after all.
Oier Olazábal, the backup to Dimitrievski in the opening round of Spain’s top flight last week, will also serve as the backup to Roberto on the first team.
Here are the 21 players called up by Granada B for Saturday’s game vs. Cartagena:
Goalkeepers: Stole Dimitrievski, Cristian Alaminos.
Defenders: Marcelo, Luis Lozano, Corozo, Migue García, Medina, Morante.
Midfielders: Boateng, Bravo, Sergio Martin, Nico, Clifford, Luizinho, Peña, Uche, Adolfo.
Attackers: Mercado, Ramírez, Cuero, Canillas.
