Second league club costs

alt Ever wandered what are the costs for a club in Macedonia per season? Here’s an article that roughly explains the season expenses for second-league clubs.

Ohridnews.com’s Mirko Postolovski and well-into second league football, Naum Jankuloski decided to make some calculations how much money does a club need to compete in the second league.

Salaries:

  • 200 euros monthly salary for 5 players
  • 150 euros monthly salary for 5 players
  • 100 euros monthly salary for 5 players
  • 100 euros monthly salary for 5 youngsters
  • 300 euros monthly salary for team manager
  • 150 euros monthly salary for assistant coach
  • 150 euros monthly salary for goalkeepers’ coach
  • 150 euros monthly salary for team secretary
  • 150 euros monthly salary for groundman
  • 150 euros monthly salary for team doctor.

No payment for members of the executive board of the club taking their membership can be volunteering.

TOTAL: 3.800 euros per month *12 months = 45.600 euros

Referees’ costs:

Second league season is consisted of 30 matches, 15 of which at home. 4 referees plus delegate plus controller = 600 euros per match. That is about 9.000 euros. Plus, youth categories’ 12 matches per season cost around 800 euro.

TOTAL: 9.800 euros

Youth categories:

3 coaches * 150 euros monthly salary equals 450 euros.

TOTAL: 450 euros *12 months = 5.400 euros

Transport:

15 matches for the first team, average 150 euros per match = 2.250 euros per season.
22 matches for youth categories is approximately 2.800 euros per season.

TOTAL: 5.000 euros per season.

Equipment:

Let’s take there are 21 players in first team. One equipment for one player is around 30 euros and each player needs 4 equipments. That adds 2.500 euros for all players.
40 balls *20 euros = 800 euros
If there are 18 players in each of the 3 youth categories, that is 54 players * 30 euros = 1.620 euros. 50 balls * 20 euros =1.000 euros

TOTAL: ~6.000 euros

Food:

1500 euros are needed if lunch is given to the players in all the away matches, if we consider one lunch at around 100 euros. Plus, around 700 euros for youth categories food costs are needed.

TOTAL: 2.200 euros

Monthly bills:

In average, electricity costs around 100 euros per month, or 1.200 euros per season. Plus, 240 euros for water.

TOTAL: 1.440 euros

Now, let’s calculate all the totals. Around 75.000 euros are needed for a stable second-league club to compete and be solid enough to make a challenge for promotion. These costs are without the needed money for players that are not from the town where the club is located and without the money for cup matches as they cannot be foreseen. All in all, at least 75.000 euros are needed and this is only a rough number. In these numbers money needed for fines for yellow and red cards are not calculated. Plus, have in mind that no professional contracts can be signed meaning there can be no transfer fee if a player is sold, no foreigners can compete and coaches must have A or B licenses. Money for the emergency vehicle, security agency etc. are also not calculated, but we think it is enough to get the picture how much a club needs in the second league.
