Co-hosts Rockdale City Suns won the Maso Cup for the second time in their history after heavily beating Wollongong United with 4:0 in the final.
For Rockdale City Suns this was third consecutive final after winning in 2011 and losing last year. The Suns topped the Group A and in the semi-finals faced Group B winners Broadmeadow Magic, beating them 3:1 to reach the final.
Last year’s winners and also co-hosts, Bankstown City Lions was eliminated in the semi-finals by Wollongong United who advanced as best runners up. Both teams were in the same group where they played a goalless draw and Bankstown City Lions won the group thanks to a better goal-difference and the schedule made them face again. Once again they played a draw, but this time there had to be a winner with Wollongong United celebrating 4:2 after penalties.
The final, like all Sunday games, was played at the Ilinden Sports Centre, home of Rockdale City Suns. The co-hosts faced Wollongong United who fought for their first Maso Cup trophy, but was helpless against the merry Suns. The score of 4:0 tells who dominated in this final, but it has to be mentioned that the Wollongong United players had no time to rest since the final was right after their hard semi-final game. These two also featured in the 2011 final when the winner was the same, but the score was 3:0.
Now Rockdale City Suns lead the hall of fame with two wins (2011 and 2013) followed by likes of Altona Magic (2008), Arncliffe Scots (2009) and Bankstown City Lions (2012) who have won it on one occasion.
