Robert Popov will continue his career in Switzerland as he recently signed a contract with second division side SC Kriens.
Robert Popov, the older brother of Goran, has finally found a team in Swiss second division side SC Kriens. He signed the contract several days ago before the end of the transfer window. Keep in mind that Robert signed with Cypriot club Alki earlier in the summer but the coaching staff released him about a month later. He once again became a free agent and he managed to find a team just before the end of the summer transfer window.
Popov is now 29 years old and plays at RB. He has been without a team for over one year because of a nagging injury that he sustained while playing at French club Auxerre. Robert began his career with hometown club Belasica before realizing a transfer to Litex Lovech in 2003. While in Bulgaria, he was in good form and drew interest from Auxerre who signed Popov in January of 2008. However, Popov only made 6 league appearances for Auxerre due to numerous injuries. He mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Auxerre in the summer of 2010.
Robert formerly played for the Macedonian national team and has 15 appearances up to this point. He no longer seems to be in the national team picture after not playing for a long time. He will hope to regain his form with Kriens and return to playing regularly while avoiding injuries. Kriens plays in the Swiss second division and they are currently near the bottom of the table with only four points after six games. Other Macedonian internationals in the Swiss second division include Aco Stojkov with Aarau and Adis Jahović with Wil.
