The club was founded in 1937. For most of its existence it played in the Yugoslav Second Division, but following Macedonian independence it has played in the Macedonian First League. Rabotnicki went on to win the national title again in 2006, leading them to preliminary Champions League qualification. They have had one of the most memorable runs in their history, defeating Dudelange of Luxembourg and Debrecen of Hungary before losing to French club Lille. They were eliminated from the UEFA Cup this season in the first round, having been defeated 2-1 on aggregate by Bolton Wanderers.
