First League

Preview: Macedonian First League – Round 32

First LeagueWith two more rounds remaining, Vardar has already been crowned champion, 11 Oktomvri is relegated, Ohrid is heading there as well, so there is not much drama in the final stages of the domestic championship.

The derby of the round will be played in Tetovo where the defending champions Shkendija will host this year’s title holders Vardar.  The home side will look to defeat Vardar for the first time this season and overtake Metalurg for second place on the table.

Metalurg, meanwhile, welcomes Bregalnica Shtip to Skopje in a match between two teams in the top five of the standings.  Metalurg, like Shkendija, is fighting for second place while Bregalnica still has slim hopes of finishing as high as fourth place.  Their contender for the fourth position, Renova, will look to cement that place with a win over Napredok.  A Renova win ensures that the winners of the Macedonian Cup will finish in fourth place this season.

Ohrid still has minimal hopes of avoiding direct relegation as they visit Kratovo in this round to square off against Sileks.  Ohrid will be shorthanded as the several Serbian players on the squad left the club earlier in the week.  This is a matchup of two struggling clubs.  Sileks is safe from avoiding relegation but the club has been in bad recent form with five consecutive league defeats, while Ohrid has not won in eleven games with two draws and nine losses.  Something will have to give between these two teams and both sides will be aiming to end the string of negative results.

Rabotnichki will meet Teteks at home, looking to extend its winning streak to three games.  Teteks still has a lot to play for as they are attempting to hold off Ohrid for 10th place, a spot that leads to the relegation play-offs.  Teteks leads Ohrid by five points with two rounds remaining, so even a draw would be a welcome result for the Tetovo based club.  Meanwhile, Horizont Turnovo goes on the road to face already relegated 11 Oktomvri.  Horizont Turnovo has avoided direct relegation but will still have to confirm their first league status for next season in a playoff against either the third or fourth placed team from the Second League, depending on the final standings.
