Attacker Goran Pandev edged Ivan Trickovski and Tome Pacovski to become the player of the month for December.  Goran featured in five games for Napoli during the past month and performed well with one goal and three assists.  Early in December, his club was also able to defeat Villarreal and thus advance to the Champions League group stages.  Pandev has started to receive more playing time as of late due to the Napoli manager rotating his squad because of the many matches and Goran has taken advantage of those opportunities by putting in good performances.  After a slow start to the season, Pandev has seemed more comfortable over the past month and has been able to win the confidence of the Napoli fans.  Napoli scored 14 goals in December with Pandev starring in the wins over Lecce and Genoa.

Goran’s closest competitors, Ivan Trickovski and Tome Pacovski, were also deserving candidates but Pandev was given the slight edge because of the quality of the competition.  The Italian league is still considerably better than both the Cypriot and Belgian leagues, respectively.  Trickovski had three goals and one assist for APOEL in four games during the past month while Pacovski had three clean sheets in five appearances for Beerschot.  Trickovski scored his three goals in one game when he notched a hat-trick in the game against AEK Larnaca.  Two of the goals in that game took a slight deflection before going to the back of the net.  As for Pacovski, he had three clean sheets but left one of those games early due to a head injury and then conceded five goals in the other two games.
