Goran Pandev was shown a red card shortly after the Turkish referee Bülent Yıldırım blew the final whistle during today’s game.
Pandev was already set to miss the next game against Andorra on 6 September 2011 since he picked up his second yellow card during EURO 2012 qualifying in the 42nd minute for arguing with the referee about a non penalty. The play in question came in the 40th minute when Pandev was through on goal and had a big chance. His first effort was saved by the Russian keeper but Pandev tried to score on the rebound when he was brought down by a Russian defender. Goran appealed for a penalty but the referee waved play on. Soon there after, Russia scored the only goal of the game which upset many of the Macedonian players, including Pandev. After the goal, the referee was surrounded by Macedonian players and Bülent Yıldırım decided to show Pandev a yellow card for arguing.
From that moment, when there were stoppages during the game, Pandev would stop by the referee and continue his disagreement about the non penalty call. Finally, after the referee blew the final whistle, Pandev came over to him and said something which led to the referee to immediately show Pandev his second yellow card of the game, thus meaning a red card. UEFA will investigate the incident and decide on Pandev’s punishment as to how many games he will be suspended.

What do you think? Should the referee have pointed to the spot? Or, did Pandev go over the line by repeatedly questioning the decision of the referee?
