Goran Pandev was given a start by Napoli on Tuesday and rewarded manager Rafa Benítez by scoring one goal and winning two penalties.
Napoli decided to rest starting CF Gonzalo Higuaín, so Pandev started in his place. Goran was very active and played a part in all three goals for Napoli in their 3:0 win over Cagliari.
Around the half hour mark, Pandev was brought down inside the area, leading the referee to point to the spot. Napoli winger Dries Mertens converted the penalty to give his team a 1:0 lead. Moments before halftime, Napoli made it 2:0 when Pandev latched on a cross from José Callejón to send his effort to the back of the net from close range.

In the 2nd half, 54th minute to be exact, Goran won another penalty when he was fouled by the Cagliari keeper, this time leading to a direct red card for the starting keeper of the visiting team. Cagliari then brought on backup keeper Vlada Avramov, who is of Macedonian origin, by taking off Macedonian international Agim Ibraimi who was mostly quiet during the game. Napoli captain Marek Hamšík took the penalty this time, but his powerful shot struck the top of the crossbar for an unlucky miss. The home side did add a third goal in the 58th minute when Pandev’s effort was saved by Avramov, but Macedonia born Blerim Džemaili was there to score an easy goal on the rebound.
