Since the draw in December there were tons of rumors in Macedonia that Goran Pandev could get out of international retirement and help the national team against Italy, the country where he made a name of himself.

In today’s edition of Genoa based daily newspaper Il Secolo XIX, Pandev made it clear that that’s hot going to happen.

“I made a mistake when I continued to play after the EURO, but I wanted to say goodbye before the Genoa fans. I am not getting back in the national team for Italy – Macedonia”, said Pandev.

With Elif Elmas being suspended (he has yellow cards) fans were hoping that Pandev could step in and help, but now is is clear that there is now way for that to happen.

Pandev retired from the national team at the last group stage match against the Netherlands at 2020 EURO last summer. With 122 caps and 38 goals scored he is the all-time leader in the Macedonian national team statistics.
