The 2014-15 season is now officially over in the Second League. Gostivar stayed in 3rd place to force a play-off with Turnovo for the final spot in the top division, while Gorno Lisiche will participate in the relegation play-off after finishing in 8th place.
The final round of this season was crucial to six of the ten teams. Two were fighting for the promotion play-off spot, while four wanted to avoid the relegation play-off position.
Gostivar entered this round in 3rd place and had a tough road game against Gorno Lisiche, a desperate team that wanted to get out of the relegation play-off. The “Vulpines” took the lead early through their best player, Alen Jasharoski, but even a win would not guarantee them escaping 8th place. They needed a win plus help from other teams. Eventually, that was all for naught as Gostivar equalized through Martin Blazhevski, a former youth national team player. The score finished 1:1, so Gostivar will now play Turnovo in the promotion play-off for the last spot in the First League, while Gorno Lisiche will compete in the relegation play-off. Gorno Lisiche will look to remain in the Second League by battling with the winners of the five third leagues (Ljubanci, Belasica, Pobeda, Veleshta and Zajazi). From those six teams, there will only be room for three teams to play in the second division next season.
Makedonija GjP also had a difficult road game against local rival Skopje. The home team had to win in order to escape a possible relegation play-off spot, and they managed to do just that with a 1:0 triumph. Darko Milevski scored the lone goal in the opening half for Skopje. Both teams will face each other next season in the same competition.
Another relegation play-off candidate was Kozhuf Miravci who had no problems defeating already relegated Drita. They celebrated a 3:0 victory, more than enough to ensure that they remain in the second division for the 2015-16 campaign.
As expected, Vlazrimi 77 beat Napredok to also be safe for next year. Although this is a local derby in Kichevo, it was more of a training session for Vlazrimi who made easy work of Napredok who today only had 4 players on the bench.
The battle between the two promoted teams ended in a home. Shkupi beat Mladost CD with 2:0 and after the final whistle received their trophy for winning the league. The game was played behind closed doors due to a recent incident between the youth teams of Shkupi and Vardar. That saw their stadium get suspended. The game was also a farewell match for veteran attacker Goran Stankovski. The 38-year-old scored both goals today putting an end to a long and rich career in which he played for Sloga Jugomagnat, Rabotnichki, Makedonija GjP, Drita and abroad for the likes of TeBe Berlin (Germany), Antwerp (Belgium), Kitchee (Hong Kong), Sibir (Russia), Diyarbakırspor (Turkey) and Dacia (Moldova). He recorded 3 appearances for the senior national team of Macedonia.
