No domestic football this weekend due to national days of mourning

All football matches scheduled for the weekend of March 22-23 will not take place due to the active 7-days national days of mourning for the tragic nightclub fire in Kochani that took the lives of 59 young Macedonians and later a ambulance driver. Among the victims were Shkupi player Andrej Lazarov and Mal Ajaks youth goalkeeper Damjan Taneski.

The top flight is on a break due to the national team starting the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, so this will not affect the first league.

The second league matches that were not played last Sunday when the accident occurred early in the morning are rescheduled for Monday the 24th, the very first day after the national days of mourning will end. The second flight was also supposed to have a NT break.

All other matches in the 3rd and 4th leagues, as well as the women’s leagues have been postponed for dates to be decided. Third league North will play on the 25th, the day when Macedonia hosts Wales.

All public events have been cancelled in memory of the victims and all flags are at half mast.

The former Yugoslav rivals in Macedonian side Vardar and Serbian giant Crvena zvezda have arranged a humanitarian match in Skopje on April 18 with all revenue going for the victims of the fire (196 people have been hospitalized with injures, almost half of them transported to many countries in Europe for medical treatment).
