Macedonia won the first place in its League C group of the UEFA Nations League and won a place in League B, where in two years it will play with much better opponents. The footballers did it with 5 wins, only one draw, and without defeat, with all the wins in a row, with 10 goals scored in the six matches and only one conceded, from the penalty spot in the opening match.
President Muamed Sejdini used the momentum to step down while the national team is on the rise. Recently, the members of the Board of Directors created a quorum and submitted a request for an Extraordinary Assembly to elect a new president, dissatisfied with Sejdini’s work. The current president decided not top fight and to resign peacefully, and he did so on Sunday evening.
“After seven extraordinary years filled with historic achievements, I have decided to retire from the position of president of the Football Federation of Macedonia.
The decision is the result of my thinking that the moment has come for a change, after a period that will be remembered as the most successful in the history of our football.
Together with you, we have written golden pages for Macedonian football: the historic participation at 2020 EURO, second place in the qualifying group for the World Cup and the unforgettable victory over Italy in Palermo, the successes in the Nations League with promotion in League B and the realization of numerous infrastructural projects in cooperation with UEFA and FIFA.
I leave this position with pride and immense gratitude to everyone who contributed to these successes: footballers, coaches, clubs, investors, administration, members of the Board of Directors and every football fan.
I will continue to perform my role until December 22, when the Extraordinary Assembly will elect my successor.
With full faith in the future of the Federation and Macedonian football, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and cooperation in the past years.
With respect and gratitude, Muamed Sejdini.”
Sejdini became president in 2017 after the resignation of Ilcho Gjorgjioski. As his vice president, he first became acting president, and then he was duly elected.
