Finally the game that has been speculated for some time has been confirmed, Macedonia and Qatar will play a friendly game in Italy’s capital.
What was long anticipated finally became official as the Qatar Football Association confirmed the friendly today. It will take place on the 30th of May in the city of Rome, the capital of Italy. Previous rumors said that the game will be played at the Stadio Olimpico, but so far there is no official confirmation regarding the venue.
Qatar will hold a training camp in Rome starting on May 22 as they will be preparing for the the 2015 AFC Asian Cup that will be held in Australia next January. The friendly against Macedonia is their only confirmed friendly so far, while the Lynx will also face Cameroon in Austria four days earlier. Just as a reminder, Qatar will be hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
It will be the third meeting between Macedonia and Qatar. In 2009, Macedonia celebrated a 2:1 win in Skopje, while 13 years ago, on a neutral field in France, the Maroon won by a single goal.
These two friendlies will allow manager Boshko Gjurovski a good opportunity to test more players before the 2016 EURO qualifications get underway in September.
