Ivan Trichkovski told a Polish newspaper that he received a call-up to the Macedonian squad, but his Legia coach preferred him to stay in Poland to work on his fitness.
On Wednesday, one of the top newspapers in Poland, “Przegląd Sportowy,” published an extensive interview with Ivan Trichkovski. Ivan had just signed with Legia Warszawa not too long ago, so the media in Poland was interested in learning more about Trichkovski. He decided to accept the interview invite from “Przegląd Sportowy.”
Ivan was asked 20 questions, of which one was about the national team. Obviously, with this site covering Macedonian football, that was the one question that interested us.

The author of the interview, Maciej Kaliszuk, asked Ivan about his national team future and why he wasn’t included in the latest squad. This is how Trichkovski responded, “I spoke with the national team director about our relationship moving forward, and he told me that I would be appointed. However, after a discussion with Legia head coach Henning Berg, it was agreed that it would be better if I stay with the club to work on improving my fitness.”
Macedonia’s national team director is Sasha Ciric. So, Ivan came close to being on the current squad. If he builds up his fitness levels over the next month, and gets some game action, then Trichkovski should be back for the two qualifiers in October.
