Katanec to leave Macedonia

Srecko KatanecSrecko Katanec, the coach of the Macedonian national team, announced that this are his last qualifications with Macedonia and he will leave the national team when all theoretical chances for qualification are lost.

On the meeting with the journalists today, Srecko Katanec announced that he will leave the Macedonian national team as soon as Macedonia loses all chances for qualification for the World Cup 2010. Still, Katanec is optimistic about the chances because he stated that he will work off his contract until the end of the qualifications.

After the two defeats from the 9th qualificational group, especially the last defeat on the match away to Iceland, Macedonia has reduced chances for qualification to the WC 2010 with three points after three matches. The atmosphere around the national team got worse and it culminated after the Slovenian coach Katanec decided to leave the captain Goce Sedloski out of the squad for the friendly match away to Montenegro, where Macedonia was defeated again.

– ” I had the chance to see the Macedonian football from closer and especially had the chance to see the character of your players. I don’t have positive opinion for some of them”, said Katanec.
