Aleksandar Stavrev had a good performance as the referee in the Barcelona vs. Viktoria Plzeň game at the Camp Nou stadium.
There is often the saying for referees, “if you were not noticed and nobody mentioned your name, then you did a good job.” That was the case in today’s game as Stavrev was not involved in any controversial moments and had a good debut in the Champions League. Stavrev did not hand out any yellow or red cards during the game as Barcelona notched a 2:0 home victory over Viktoria Plzeň.
However, the score was not indicative of the Barcelona dominance. The visitors from the Czech Republic did not attempt one shot on goal and Barcelona’s poor finishing made the score look more respectable. Overall, Stavrev and his assistant referees, all from Macedonia, should be pleased with their performance in today’s game and should get another opportunity in the future.
