Vardar has started the league season with three consecutive victories but the management of the club continues to focus on improving the team and they are close to capturing the signature of midfielder Filip Despotovski.  Filip is currently a free agent after he parted ways with Inter Bakı earlier this summer.  His first priority was to remain abroad but he could not find the right offer so he has returned to Macedonia and is expected to sign a contract with Vardar.  Despotovski has said in the past that if he returned to play in Macedonia, Vardar is the only club he would consider.  He is now 28 years old and the original plan was for Despotovski to play abroad for a couple of more years and then finish his career in Macedonia with Vardar but that plan changed after Despotovski could not agree to terms with several interested teams from abroad.

Another reason why Despotovski is expected to sign for Vardar is due to family reasons.  Last year, Despotovski played in Azerbaijan but his wife and young son remained in Macedonia.  He said in one interview in Azerbaijan that being alone in a foreign country is tough so returning to Macedonia made sense for Despotovski.  Vardar has added many new players this season and has the ambitions to win the league title.  Filip plays in defensive midfield and has made 17 apearances for the Macedonian national team.  He was one of the new names that Mirsad Jonuz introduced after he took over as the manager in 2009.  Filip was a regular but has recently lost his place to Muhamed Demiri from Swiss club Thun.  He did not make the squad for the recent friendly against Azerbaijan as he was in the process of looking for a new club.  To date, he was most successful during his two year stint in Ukraine with Vorskla from 2008 to 2010.

Vardar is also looking at signing a striker after the injury to Filip Ivanovski.  Latest rumors are that Vardar is considering Aleksandar Bajevski, Riste Naumov, and Jovan Kostovski as possible solutions to improve their attacking department.
