Samir Fazli became the latest Macedonian international to suffer a serious injury as he tore his ACL.
Forward Samir Fazli, once a highly rated young prospect, received devastating news yesterday. He tore his ACL, meaning Samir will be out of action for a very long time (6-8 months).
Fazli is currently under contract with FC Wil of the Swiss second division. He was one of their key players, so his absence will be felt by the club. Wil was targeting promotion this season after a Turkish led group bought the team over the summer. They made some splash signings, so Wil will need to find a replacement for Fazli during the winter transfer window.
Now 24 years old, Samir was a top prospect back in his teenage days. He transferred at a young age to Dutch side Heerenveen, but he failed to make a breakthrough there. So, after Fazli’s contract expired with Heerenveen in the summer of 2014, he moved to Wil where he has played ever since. This ACL tear will cause Samir to miss the rest of the 2015-16 season.
Fazli was a former regular of Macedonia’s youth national teams, and he also made several appearances for the senior squad (mainly under the guidance of then managers Boban Babunski and John Toshack).
