Elif Elmas has had a rough time as of late for Fenerbahçe and has come under fire from both the Turkish media as well as the Fener fans. His team currently sit a point above the relegation zone and don’t seem to be improving anytime soon. They were also knocked out of the Europa league in the round of 32 after losing 3:2 on aggregate to Zenit. Phillip Cocu was the Fenerbahçe manager at the start of the season and was a specialist when it came to working with young players. Elmas developed a lot under Cocu and became a first team regular. Even though Fenerbahçe were struggling he was one of the stand out performers.
However, since Ersun Yanal took over the team Elmas had struggled for form mainly due to the fact he been played out of position and hasn’t seen as many minutes on the pitch. It is now rumored that Elmas is now unsettled and would be open for a move away. Before Elmas decided to sign for Fenerbahçe interest was high for the young Macedonian with clubs like Inter, Ajax and Tottenham all looking to sign him. So, if he does want to leave he won’t be short of offers.
Brendan Rodgers who recently took over Leicester has been told he will have £200 million to spend in the summer as Leicester try to push on and secure European football next season. Rodgers, who is a big admirer of Elmas, thinks he can help him achieve his goals next season and has reportedly made a £30 million pound offer for the young Macedonian midfielder. However, won’t be the only club looking to sign him as Tottenham, Bayern, Juventus and Real Madrid have all been monitoring him this season.
Leicester is the perfect club for Elmas and here are the reasons why. First of all, he will have a very good manager in Brendan Rodgers who has experience in the Premier league after managing Swansea and Liverpool. He has also proved he knows how to develop and improve young players after his time at Liverpool working with players such as Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling. Secondly, Leicester have one of the best young squads in the Premier league with players such as James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Wilfred Ndidi and Demari Gray. Elmas would certainly join the list of young promising players at Leicester. He would also have less pressure at a club like Leicester due to the fact that there are loads of young English talents that the media will be focusing on allowing Elmas to keep his head down and go under the radar. Finally, there is loads of healthy competition for a starting place in midfield that can only help better Elmas as a player.
