Hardest possible draw for the two Macedonian teams in the Europa League last qualifying round as Shkendija will face Serie A giant Milan, while Vardar will match Turkish giant Fenerbahçe.
Vardar missed a great opportunity to play in the Champions League play-off stage, but after losing 4:1 on the road return game against København it was relocated into the Europa League.
Shkendija started from the first qualifying round in the Europa League and, same as last summer, managed to eliminated every oponent to reach the last qualifying stage. Their last obstacle was Lithuanian suide Trakai who had a 2:1 advantage from the first leg, but got smashed 3:0 in Strumica.
Both our teams were unseeded in today’s draw. First drawn was Shkendija who got Milan as oponent. The 18 times Italian champions will for the first time visit Macedonia in a period of rebuilding their team.Last time they were Serie A champions in 2011 and since then have only managed to lift one Super Cup last season.
Later was drawn Vardar who also had no luck as they got another famous European side in Fenerbahçe, the new team of Macedonian wunderkind Elif Elmas. The Turkish giant was last time champions of its country back in 2014.
Both Shkendija and Vardar were drawn to be hosts in the first leg, but that may change as both will play on the same stadium. National Arena Philip II of Macedon will be available for matches since the UEFA Super Cup will be played on Tuesday and adfter that there wont be any restrictions.
The first leg matches are scheduled for the 17th, while the return for the 24th. We have to wait and see in UEFA will reverse any host or will move one game for the 15th.
