The Macedonian internationals involved in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifications learned their opponents for the play-off round of each competition.
The Champions League draw of the play-off round affected two Macedonian internationals. Agim Ibraimi (Maribor) and Darko Tasevski (Ironi Kiryat Shmona) learned their opponents that stand between their clubs reaching the group stages of the competition.
The Champions League draw involving the Macedonian players:
Maribor (Slovenia) vs. Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia)
Ironi Kiryat Shmona (Israel) vs. BATE Borisov (Belarus)
Just like in the previous rounds, the matchups consist of two legs, each team hosting a home game, and the aggregate score then determines the winner. The teams that prevail in the Champions League play-off round reach the group stages of the competition while the losers will settle for the group stages of the less prestigious Europa League.
Meanwhile, the draw for the Europa League play-off round was also held today. Six teams involved in the draw had Macedonian players on its roster. Those teams were Club Brugge (Ivan Trichkovski), Steaua București (Daniel Georgievski), Dinamo București (Kristijan Naumovski), Heerenveen (Samir Fazli), Ekranas (Yani Urdinov) and Partizan (Aleksandar Lazevski and Stefan Ashkovski).
Here is how the draw panned out for them:
Steaua București (Romania) vs. Ekranas (Lithuania)
Dinamo București (Romania) vs. Metalist Kharkiv (Ukraine)
Club Brugge (Belgium) vs. Debrecen (Hungary)
Heerenveen (Netherlands) vs. Molde (Norway)
Partizan (Serbia) vs. Tromsø (Norway)
The format, just like the Champions League, involves two legs with each team hosting a home game. The winning sides on aggregate will reach the group stages of the Europa League, while the losing teams are eliminated from European contention.
