The young goalkeeper Dejan Stojanovic underwent a medical for Bologna today and thus completed his move to the Italian club.
Stojanovic confirmed to an Austrian newspaper that he received offers from Italian clubs Inter, Parma, Bologna, and Sampdoria as well as German clubs Wolfsburg and Hannover but he felt Bologna was the best fit for him to grow as a player. Stojanovic said he looks forward to working with the #1 keeper of Bologna Emiliano Viviano who is also an Italian international. He said the competition will make him better and he hopes to learn more about the goalkeeping position from Viviano. He will initially play for the Primavera team with the hopes of joining the first team within a year as Stojanovic also mentioned that he is a big fan of Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas.
However, not everything that Stojanovic said was positive. Although Stojanovic has started playing for the Macedonian U21 national team, he stated in the interview that he is not sure whether he will continue to play for Macedonia in the future. It seems Stojanovic chose to play for Macedonia because he still does not have an Austrian passport but once he receives his passport, it is possible that he will decide to represent Austria. Stojanovic only started playing for the Macedonian U21 team in 2010 although he was offered a chance to be on the youth teams earlier but he rejected those invitations. Once he continued to have problems obtaining an Austrian passport, he decided to accept the invitation to play for the Macedonian U21 team.
