After only a short few months in Iceland, Daniel Ivanovski asked to be released by Fjölnir for family reasons.

Daniel Ivanovski, set to turn 32 years old later this month, is no longer a member of Fjölnir. The veteran defender joined the Icelandic club in March, but only lasted three months before his departure.

Ivanovski asked to be released from his contract for family reasons. His wife and young daughter live in Sweden, so Ivanovski missed his family and decided it wasn’t worth it to remain in Iceland. Fjölnir respected the player’s wish and granted his release.

Ágúst Gylfason, the head coach of Fjölnir, said the following, “Daniel will go to his home in Sweden on Thursday. It’s a big loss for us to lose this good player. He gave us a lot on the pitch.”

Ivanovski featured in all eight league games for Fjölnir this season. His last appearance came this past Monday. He will aim to resume his career with a Swedish club this summer, so he can reunite with his family.

Daniel, born in Kratovo, has been capped four times by the Macedonian national team. His last call-up for the senior squad came in the latter part of 2013.
