Damjan Shishkovski reaches deal with Gent

Damjan Shishkovski, who is also the starter for the Macedonian U21 national team, will officially move to Gent in January since the transfer window is currently closed.  Damjan visited Belgium today to take a physical and to sign a pre-contract with Gent.  The Belgian side has scouted Shishkovski while he played for both Rabotnichki and Macedonia U21, and they were pleased with his performances which led to this arrangement.

According to Belgian media, Gent was in the market for a young third keeper.  Kristof Maes, the current #3 keeper on the team, is a free agent at the end of the season, so Gent has been looking for his replacement since Maes will not be brought back.  Gent was aggressive and reached an agreement with Rabotnichki for Shishkovski to join the club in the winter transfer window.

This latest transfer continues Rabotnichki’s strategy of giving playing time to their youngsters before selling them abroad.  This January, besides Shishkovski, Rabotnichki will also see Tauljant Sulejmanov move to Young Boys (that deal was reached back in the summer).  Those are two teenagers who have accomplished their goals of starting their international careers.  Now, Rabotnichki will surely shift its attention to securing transfers for other young players on their team like Darko Velkovski and Kire Markoski.

As a reminder, Rabotnichki also sold Gjoko Zajkov to French side Rennes earlier in the summer.  Rabotnichki has been the best Macedonian club when it comes to transferring their top young players to respectable leagues around Europe.
