The draw for the semis in the Macedonian Cup took place today with title favourites Vardar and Shkendija playing against each other, while Bregalnica and Pelister will decide the other finalist.
After many seasons Macedonia will see a different cup final. Today in the headquarters of the football federation of Macedonia took place the semifinal draw in which the biggest favourites for the title were drawn to face one step before the grand final.
Vardar was drawn first and will play as host in the first leg, while his opponent will be current holders Shkendija. These two are the firm favourites for the title in both league and cup. On half-season in the first league Vardar is leading with 4 point ahead of Shkendija. Vardar hasn’t featured in a cup final since 2007 when they won their 5th cup trophy. If they make it to the final it will be their 7th. Shkendija will fight for their 4th final and 2nd title.
The remaining tie is between Bregalnica and Pelister. Bregalnica so far has never managed to reach the final with several times being eliminated in the semis. They are once again playing for history. Pelister will play for their 4th final, but they haven’t been there since 2001 when they lift their only trophy.
Vardar vs. Shkendija
Bregalnica vs. Pelister
From these 4 teams, only Vardar and Pelister have met in a final, the very first historical Macedonian final back in 1993 when Vardar celebrated a 1:0 win to grab the trophy. So, whoever reaches the final, it will be a very interesting clash.
The first leg games will be played on March 1 with a kick-off at 14.00 CET, while the return are scheduled for April 19 at the same time.
