Boban Nikolov signs for Lecce

Boban Nikolov finally makes a step forward in his career as he arrived at Lecce on Monday for medical exams.

The defensive midfield has his contract with Hungarian side Fehérvár set to expire in June, so the club decided to let him go and make some profit while still can. Serie B side Lecce is his new destination where he joined left back Leonard Zhuta who is there since the summer.

This is a good move for Boban, a step forward in his career as Lecce is a solid Italian club who last season got relegated from the Seria A and this season is fighting to win promotion.

Nikolov arrived in Lecce on Monday where he had the medical exams, while it is expected the club to make his move official Tuesday afternoon at an official presentation. The club so far hasn’t revealed the lenght of Boban’s contract.

The 26-year-old played for Fehérvár for two years as he went there from Vardar in February 2018. Previously he played for Romanian clubs Viitorul and Academia Hagi, while he started his career in his native city of Shtip at the youth academy of Bregalnica.

With his signing for Lecce, now there are 5 Macedonian players in Italy. Besides Zhuta who is also at Lecce, the other three are in Serie A: Goran Pandev at Genoa, Ilija Nestorovski at Udinese and Elif Elmas at Napoli.

At Lecce he will have a strong competition for the first 11. The clubs uses a 4-3-1-2 formation with one DM and two CMs. Greek national team player Panagiotis Tachtsidis is cemented as experienced DM, while Scottish international Liam Henderson and Slovene Žan Majer were standard at CM this season. Also, Lecce yesterday signed young Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand.
