Sasa Ognenovski will play for Australia in the upcoming friendly game against Egypt away as FFM once again was hit by its incapability.
Another Macedonian will play for a national team other than Macedonia. The titanic defender of the Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, finalist of this season’s Asian Champions League, is in the Australia squad for the friendly against Egypt in Cairo.
Ognenovski was supposed to play to Macedonia and he even declared that he wants to do that, but the FFM failed to bring him in the national team declaring that was unable to get him a Macedonian passport. How can a Macedonian be unable to get a Macedonian passport? He is now 31, but he would have been a great addition to our squad and would fill good along Mainz’s captain Nikolce Noveski in the back line.
It is not his fault that he is now in other national team and MacedonianFootball.com wishes him all the best with Australia and a long national team career. Technicaly, he could still switch, but Ognenovski is not a kind of person that backs down plus the FFM probably won’t even bother, they now have Agron Memedi.
“I have watched DVDs and I also saw him live on television. He is big and strong and has a physical presence that scares the opposition.” – said the Australian national team coach Holger Osieck about the call of Ognenovski.
On the 13th this month Ognenovski will have the chance to win the Asian Champions League as his team is facing iranian side Zob Ahan at the Kokuritsu Kyōgijō (National Olympic Stadium) in Tokyo, Japan. Ognenovski was near to get a call for October’s friendly against Paraguay, but that did not happen. Now, he is definitly in the Socceroos’ squad.
