Sedloski: I gave every attacker a chance, but that goal is still missing

Macedonian national team coach Goce Sedloski gave his thoughts on the disastrous results in the first four matches of the 26/27 Nations League in which Macedonia only once managed to sent a precise shot within the opponents’ goal.

He spoke after the 3:0 road defeat against Switzerland on Tuesday. First he spoke about the match in Lucerne in which Macedonia was defeated thanks to three individual mistakes.

“We played a perfect first half leading up to the goal, but a national team like Switzerland didn’t forgive the individual errors we made. I have to say that we really should have capitalized on the two or three chances we had in the first half. You saw how Switzerland took advantage of every opportunity to score, even in tight spaces. I congratulate the Swiss on their victory—they are a good team—but we showed in the first half that we can compete and play well. A minor issue is that some of our players aren’t getting game time at their clubs, but otherwise, I am satisfied with the squad,” stated Sedloski.

After that reflected the past matches and the fact that Macedonia not just in the Nations League, by in all matches under him failed to score a goal – in a total of 8 matches!

“I think I’ve given every attacking player a chance. Of course, I’ll say it again: Switzerland is a strong team, and when an opportunity arises, you have to score. I’ve tried out all the strikers since the first match, but that goal is still missing. Unfortunately, we just can’t seem to score it. We have to keep working; I’m not stopping here, nor am I giving up. I was a fighter as a player, and I’ll be the same now. We’re in a tough situation, but I’m not giving up,” continued the coach.

Not just that Macedonia never scored in the four Nations League matches, but only once managed to hit the target and it happened against Slovenia when Hristijan Maleski, the player who got the least playing time of all attackers, was denied by keeper Jan Oblak in the 84th minute.

At the end he said what he has in mind for the last two matches in November.

“I saw all the players and evaluated everything I tested. I have a complete picture for the November matches. But honestly, it wasn’t possible to play the same squad in four matches like this. The players aren’t in good form and aren’t playing for their clubs; it would have been difficult for them to hold up. As for the final look of the team, I already have that in mind,” concluded Sedloski.

Macedonia in November will travel to Scotland and will host Slovenia.
