Goran Pandev played a part in both goals for Napoli, scoring once just before halftime, but his night ended on a bad note after being shown a direct red card in the 85th minute.

Goran Pandev started for Napoli and played just behind the lone striker Edinson Cavani in the Italian Super Cup final against Juventus in China.  Juve controlled possession but it was Napoli who opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Pandev sent a through ball to Cavani who was then one on one with the opposing keeper.  As Cavani tried to get around Gianluigi Buffon, the Juve keeper got a piece of the ball but Cavani soon retrieved it and fired a shot to the back of the net.

Juventus equalized ten minutes later before Pandev gave Napoli the lead once again in the 41st minute.  Goran did well to get away from Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci before scoring with a clever chip over Buffon.  In the 72nd minute, it was 2:2 after Arturo Vidal converted a penalty for Juventus.  The Napoli manager and players were irate at the penalty given to Juventus but the referee pointed to the spot, ruling that Federico Fernández had fouled Mirko Vucinic inside the area.

Pandev would play until the 85th minute when the referee showed him a direct red card for saying something to the assistant referee.  It was a rather harsh call that had a big effect on the game.  Just before the conclusion of regulation time, Napoli was down to 9 men after Juan Camilo Zúñiga was shown a red card as well.  In addition, the Napoli manager Walter Marazzi was sent off, too, for pretesting to the referee.  That put Napoli at a huge disadvantage in extra time where Juventus added two goals for a 4:2 victory to claim the Italian Super Cup trophy.
