Igor Mitreski will not recover in time for Azerbaijan friendly

Defender Igor Mitreski confirmed today that he will not be able to play for Macedonia in the upcoming friendly due to an injury.

Interim manager Boban Babunski named a squad of 19 players for the Azerbaijan friendly on 10 August 2011 but he also mentioned that Igor Mitreski will join the team as long as he recovers from his injury.  However, that will not happen as Mitreski continues to be bothered by his knee injury and will not be able to play for the Macedonian national team during the friendly.  He is currently only able to train individually as the injury has proved to be more serious than initially believed.  Since Igor Mitreski and Slavco Georgievski play their club football in Azerbaijan, Babunski decided to call them up but now only Georgievski will be able to play during the friendly.

Also, Mitreski and Georgievski will have a new manager this season at Neftçi after their former manager Arif Asadov was let go after the disappointing games against Dinamo Zagreb during Champions League qualifying.  The new manager of Neftçi for the upcoming season will be  Böyükağa Haciyev.  Both Mitreski and Georgievski were regulars last season and helped their side win the league title in Azerbaijan.  They will hope to do the same this year as Mitreski and Georgievski are also entering the final year on their contracts.  As for their contributions to the Macedonian national team, Mitreski as a defender has made 69 appearances with one goal while Georgievski is a defensive midfielder and has made 20 appearances but is still looking for his first goal.
