It was revealed yesterday that Adis Jahovikj was involved in negotiations with an unnamed club, and today Ukrainian newspapers reported that Vorskla is the club that is close to signing the Macedonian striker.
The Macedonian colony in Ukraine will increase by one with the news that Vorskla is set to announce the signing of Adis Jahovikj. It is no secret that Adis’ current team, FC Wil from the Swiss second division, is a selling club that looks to cash in on players when their market value is the highest. Jahovikj has gotten off to a good start in the early season for Wil, but also drew interest due to being a member of the Macedonian national team.
Vorskla closely scouted Jahovikj in the Macedonia vs. Bulgaria friendly on 14 August and came away satisfied with his performance. Vorskla then got to work in agreeing a transfer fee with Wil. That has been settled and now Vorksla will need to agree to personal terms with Jahovikj to make the transfer official. The Ukrainian club was looking for an extra striker to go along with Oleh Mishchenko and Ahmed Januzi.
On the facebook profile of Adis Jahovikj, which you can view here, the striker posted a photo several hours ago that had the following text, translated in English from Macedonian, “We are flying. Where? You will find out soon.”
We now know that the flight is heading to Ukraine, and if personal terms are agreed along with a passed medical, then Jahovikj should officially become a Vorskla player. Other Macedonian players who have worn the Vorskla jersey include Filip Despotovski and Hristijan Kirovski.
The Ukrainian league continues to improve each year, and this transfer will showcase what Jahovikj can really do against much tougher opposition than in the Swiss second division. If he succeeds, then the move will also benefit the Macedonian national team where Adis is currently the starting center forward in the manager’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.
