1.MFL 19/20 overview of opening round (Video)

Akademija Pandev defeated holders Shkendija, Struga debuted with a come from behind win over Rabotnichki, Renova celebrated over Sileks, while Makedonija GjP surprised Vardar in the opening round of the new season in the Macedonian top flight.

A so called Super Cup clash between Cup winners Akademija Pandev and league holders Shkendija took place under a very hot weather in Strumica.

A superb free kick goal by Sashko Pandev in the 61st minute decided the winner. Man of the match was host keeper Dušan Čubraković who on several occasion make great save denied Shkendija a goal. The best chances for the holders came in the last two minutes. First Agim Ibraimi’s great free kick was stopped by Čubraković, while a minute later Egzon Bejtulai’s header hit the crossbar.

Top flight debutantes Struga had a dream start. After being a goal down, first they equalized before the break while in the 60th minute Nijas Lena scored a great 25 meter goal to bring the first points for the hosts.

First league returnee Borec gave Shkupi a tough time but at the end headed home pointless. The hosts had problems breaking the visiting defense until the 61st minute when Marin Jurina scored. Six minutes from time Senegalese signing Oumar Goudiaby set the final score.

Renova took the points against Sileks thanks to a lone goal by Bashkim Velija. Sileks had several scoring chances fut failed to score.

The last match of this round took place a day later. Vardar hosted Makedonija GjP in a game that saw the Macedonian league debut at TV house Arena Sport. The Lions celebrated over the young team of Vardar who despite creating several opportunities, never managed to come close to scoring. Both goals were scored on headers. The match wasn’t played at the Toshe Proeski Arena due to the athletics championship.
