UEFA Nations League: Macedonia – Gibraltar 4:0 (Video)

In the important home game against Gibraltar the Lions started slowly, but eventually the team gained a comfortable win. Now Macedonia officially promoted to League C and secured a home encounter in the play-offs for the upcoming EURO.

Macedonia started with some changes compared to the last game as captain Goran Pandev was suspended, whereas Elmas and Alioski came back after their suspensions. The hosts dominated the game from the first minute, Gibraltar was focused only on defense, nevertheless the pressure to win the game was obvious, thus the team was not able to produce directly quality chances. Like against Liechtenstein the breakthrough came from Enis Bardhi who fired a beauty to bring Macedonia the some much wanted opener in the 27th minute.

Henceforth everything was easier, but it took Macedonia 40 minutes to double the lead. It was Nestorovski who netted with a header after Ristevski’s cross. After several missed occasions today, finally joy for the Palermo striker.

Just 13 minutes later Ilija completed a brace when he scored through a left-footed shot from inside the box. Without pressure Macedonia dominated easily and was constantly close to Gibraltar’s goal.

In the 2nd minute of stoppage time Aleksandar Trajkovski netted the fourth and last goal of the game when he hammered fired a strong shot past the the visitors goalkeeper.

Macedonia absolutely dominated throughout the entire 90 minutes. A total of 27 shots were made by the home players of which 10 were on target. Gibraltar failed to send any shot towards Dimitrievki’s goal. It should be noted that 19-year-old visiting player Andrew Hernandez impressed the home crowed with his dribbling skills.

Thanks to this win Macedonia will be a host in the semifinal that will take place in March 2020. Belarus or Kosovo will be the opponent depending from tomorrow’s results. Before that semifinal Macedonia will take part in next years qualifications, but the draw for the group is upcoming December the 2nd.
