The legend of Macedonian football, Andon Donchevski, was last week named honorary president of FK Vardar Skopje, where he spent his entire playing career, appearing in 335 matches and is the club’s record holder with 217 goals scored.
“At the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of AD FK Vardar held on 07.08.2025, the proposal of non-executive director Martin Gelev, a legend of Macedonian football and Vardar, that Andon Donchevski be named honorary president of the club was unanimously accepted,” Vardar’s official statement said.
Donchevski was the first coach of the Macedonian national football team after its independence. In his coaching career, he led Vardar and Tikvesh in Macedonia, while abroad he sat on the bench of the Cypriot club Anorthosis, Australian club Preston Macedonia from Melbourne and Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
