Vardar beats Skopje to win 1.MFL promotion

Today’s play-off for filling the Macedonian top flight ended with a comfortable win for Vardar, who gets back in the top flight after two season in the second league.

This season in the Macedonian second league end with three teams winning promotion. After Voska Sport and Gostivar got promoted after finished on the first and second place, today third-placed Vardar joined them thanks to a play-off win. Vardar faced top flight 10th-placed Skopje on neutral field in Kavadarci and recorded a 3:0 win.

The red&black team broke the deadlock after just 4 minutes Darko Razmoski used a brawl into the box and scored. In the 37th minute Skopje was downed to ten men after Mile Todorov threw a a flare towards the Vardar fans and the referee showed him a direct red card.

Just five minutes after the break Dario Desnikj found Razmoski on the far post with the later putting the ball into the net to double the lead. In the 59th minute captain Glishikj scored from a free kick and sealed the win.

Highlights:

Vardar, the biggest Macedonian football brand, is eventually back in the elite. However, since the club faces big financial problems, it is unknown how competitive they will be next season. With 11 titles Vardar is the best in the history of the Macedonian league, adding in the Cup and 2 in the Super Cup. During Yugoslavia was also the best club from Macedonia and even won the league in 1986/87 only to be later attributed to Partizan after a court decision.

On the other hand, Skopje after just two seasons in the top flight gets back in the second division. The team from Avtokomanda neighborhood has featured only 6 seasons in the first league.
