According to newspaper reports out of Slovakia, goalkeeper Darko Tofiloski has informed Košice management that he wants to leave the club this summer.
The reason for Darko’s insitence on leaving Košice this summer is that he wants to play for a more ambitious club. Tofiloski has spent the past three years with Košice, making exactly 90 league appearances and conceding 105 goals in the process. He is considered one of the top keepers in Slovakia’s league and was a big reason why Košice finished in 5th place last season. However, they just missed out on a place in the Europa League qualifications.
Košice manager Jaroslav Galko was quoted as saying the following to oSporte.sk about the growing rumors of Tofiloski wanting to leave the club, “That is my biggest concern. Before we went to our summer preparations in Austria, our team president told me that Darko is 99% likely to leave. However, he promised that if an adequate offer does not arrive, Tofiloski will not go. I spoke to Darko and told him that I would be happy if he stayed, because his absence would be a problem for us.”
Anticipating the potential loss of Tofiloski this summer, Košice yesterday brought Bulgarian keeper Mario Kirev on trial. He was added since the club does not feel that the current backup to Tofiloski, Matúš Ružinský, is ready to take over as the #1 keeper.
