Köln vs. Mainz game postponed

Mainz captain Nikolce Noveski was questionable for today’s game against Köln with a thigh injury but the match ended up being postponed, allegedly due to a suicide attempt by the referee.

Shocking news out of Germany.  According to reports, the referee who was supposed to be in charge of the Köln vs. Mainz game attempted suicide and that was the reason for the postponement of today’s game.  The referee, Babak Rafati, survived the suicide attempt but the German Football Association decided to postpone the game due to this unfortunate circumstance.

Köln’s spokesperson Tobias Schmidt told the following to bundesliga.de, “The referee didn’t show up.  We were unable to find a replacement at such short notice.  We can’t make any further comment.”
