Numerous newspapers out of Cyprus are reporting that Chedomir Janevski is on the verge of being named manager of Anorthosis.
The numerous reports from reputable Cypryot newspapers state that Janevski has already reached an agreement in principle to become the next manager of Anorthosis. Financial terms have reportedly been agreed upon, with the only obstacle being whether Janevski can get his release from the Football Federation of Macedonia (FFM) contract. Janevski was signed to lead the Macedonian national team until the end of the 2014 World Cup Qualications, so until this October when qualifying concludes. However, with just two months remaining on his deal, every expectation is that Chedomir will be allowed to resign in order to take over the reigns at Anorthosis.
Barring unexpected circumstances, if the move materializes, Anorthosis would be the third Cypriot club that Janevski will lead as manager. Earlier, he served as manager for Enosis and Ethnikos Achnas. Anorthosis is considered among the big three sides in Cyprus along with APOEL and Omonia. Interestingly, Omonia’s current manager, Toni Savevski, also hails from Macedonia.
The biggest question, with this site being about Macedonian football, becomes about the direction of the national team. Who will lead Macedonia in the final four qualifiers if Janevski, as expected, departs for Anorthosis? Of the remaining four qualifyers, two take place in early September with the other two set for mid October. As a matter of fact, the upcoming qualifier against Wales on 6 September takes place exactly three weeks from today. That is not a lot of time so the likely candidate to take over until the end of the qualifications would probably be Nedjat Shabani, currently Janevski’s top assistant on the coaching staff.
Then, at the end of this qualifying cycle and with sights on the 2016 EURO qualifiers, FFM president Ilcho Gjorgjioski will likely be in the market for yet another manager to lead the Macedonian national team.
