According to the IFFHS (International federation of football history and statistics) the Macedonian first league is rated 78th on the table of 100 national strongest leagues. England, Italy and Argentina are the top 3 leagues for 2008.
Comparing to last season, when the Macedonian league was rated as 51st, this is a real setback. Not only the league has fallen 27 positions, but only 3 other European leagues are behind. This is mainly due to the fact that the Macedonian teams in Europe this season failed big time and only Renova in the InterTOTO Cup managed to pass the first round.
The Macedonian football league has gathered 268 points in 2008, while in 2007 – 320. The top 3 leagues have 1000+ points.
