Coach Blagoja Milevski made one change compared to the last match as left-back Antovski replaced right-back Jovanov, thus Todoroski moved from the left side to his usual right-back position. The young Lions started with more ball possession from the first minute, but didn’t played as dominating as expected against outsider Kazakhstan.
Despite lacking quality opportunities Macedonia opened the score in the 20th minute thanks to a mistake by a visitors player. Milan Ristovski stole the ball far from the penalty box, came afterwards close to the goal and netted with a right-footed shot. Macedonia now played with less aggression against the hamrless guests from Kazakhstan.
Through the second half the quality continued to be on a low level. Milevski made some substitutions with Ackovski, Abaz, Krstovski and Trapanovski and from nowhere the visitors scored the equalizer. A cross from far away from the right hand side was enough to bring a Kazakh player in a free position in the box. Oralkhan Omirtayev used the cross to finish with a left-footed shot from close range.
A bad result for Macedonia against a week opponent. The team was today in a worse shape compared to the last two games, the players lacked passion and precision. In November the U21 will have two road games, first in Spain and than at the Faroe Islands. As a reminder, the first-placed teams of all groups qualify for the U21 EURO in 2021, additionally the best second-placed team. All other second-placed teams have to compete in a play off. Today’s bad result could have an big impact for the fight for the best second place, normally in case we finish second in this group.
