The young Macedonians got revenge on their Cypriot counterparts, each winning one game after the two friendlies.
It was captain Petar Petkovski who scored the game winner early in the 21st minute. There was plenty of time for the results to change, but at the end Macedonia celebrated a win. In the first game played on Tuesday it was the visitors who celebrated with the same score. This second game was much better for the young Macedonians who created many chances, but also Cyprus had few opportunities to level the score. Two minutes before the end, the visitors were left with 10 men as Georgios Malekidis was shown a red card.
This was the first win for the U19s under new coach Goran Stanikj. “I’m satisfied from the win, the players’ attitude and commitment. There was a big difference from the first game especially in the offensive part of our play. We were dangerous, we were creating chances and that gives us joy. This generation is on the right path to achieve good results at the upcoming qualifications. What is next for us is to build our form though friendlies.” said Stanikj for FFM’s web page.
