Coach Goran Stanikj brought two new players compared to the line-up against Bosnia and Herzegovina as Tasevski and Vosha started instead of Nikolov and Dimovski. Furthermore a more defensive minded team with five defenders was fielded. Tasevski, Mitrevski and Gjurkovski started as CB’s, Jankulov and Muharem at RWB respectively LWB, Elezi and Dauti in defensive midfield, while Hajdari, Vosha and Maksimov played in the offense.

England was dominant from the start, but the young Lions were able to protect the area close to the goal. Unfortunately, the deadlock was broken in the 41st minute through a free-kick by Doyle. The second half the visitors created plenty of chances and added four more goals, there was a big gap between the two teams talking about quality.

In the other game of the group Bosnia and Herzegovina gained a lucky win against Luxembourg thanks to the lone goal scored in the 3rd minute of stoppage time. Because of that probably Macedonia’s only chance to reach the Elite Round is a high win again Luxembourg and at the same time England has to win with a big difference against Bosnia and Herzegovina. A tough constellation for the young fellows on the upcoming Tuesday.
